Spring Hydrangea care

Now is the time to remove any dead flowers that were left on Hydrangeas over winter.

On mophead varieties, remove the deadhead cutting back the stem to the first strong pair of buds down from the bloom.

Lacecap varieties are hardier, and can be cut back to the second pair of leaves below the dead flower.

Also, on both varieties, cut back one or two of the oldest stems at the base to encourage new lower growth.
