Possibly the most beautiful Aquilegia of all. With glorious light to deep blue flowers 2-3in across sometimes fetching bi-coloured with white. An excellent border perennial, grand for cutting, in bloom for several weeks and will grow in sun or light shade. Flowers late spring/early summer.
Sow spring to mid summer in a free draining seed compost just covering the seed with compost. Germination can take from 1 -3 months at 15-21C (60-70F), to speed this up seal in a polythene bag after sowing and leave in a refrigerator (3-50) for 3 weeks then place in warmth (15-21 C). Inspect regularly and remove if any start to germinate in the f ridge. Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Move to a coldframe or plunge the pots up to their rims in a sheltered site outdoors and plant out in autumn, 12in apart in moist well drained soil, sun or part shade.
