Description
PLEASE NOTE: This is a seed packet
The purple leaves add rich colour and give a real ‘lift’ to salads, stir fries and pasta. Can be grown indoors all year round.
Best as a garnish and in salads, colour is lost on cooking.
Sow indoors all year round for indoor crops and March to May for outdoor crops. Sow 0.5cm (1/4″) deep, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20oC (60-68oC) is ideal. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. For outdoor crops, accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 20cm (8″) apart. Alternatively, plants can be grown on a light windowsill.
Sow outdoors, for ease, where they are to drop, 0.5cm (1/4″) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered, Thin seedlings to 20cm (8″) apart. For a continuous supply, make sowings at two to three weekly intervals.
Soil Type: Well drained, fertile
Position: Full Sun
Hints: Ideal for adding contrasting colour to salads. Can be grown in trays and cut at seedling size for an attractive garnish.
Half-Hardy Annual
