Hello September! While we enjoy the last of this years warmth, there’s plenty to do in the garden this month including harvesting crops and tidying.
Here are some other top gardening jobs for this month…
🌿 Continue to feed and dead-head container and hanging basket plants.
🌿 Now is a good time for dividing perennials.
🌿 Prune any late flowering shrubs.
🌿 Keep harvesting crops.
🌿 Cut bean and pea plants to ground level once they have finished cropping. Leave the roots which will slowly release nitrogen back into the soil as they break down.
🌿 Pick any ripe apples. They should come away easy with a gentle pull when they are ready.
🌿 Feed your lawn with an Autumn lawn fertiliser.
🌿 Cover ponds with netting ready to catch falling leaves.
🌿 Plant Spring flowering bulbs.
🌿 Keep a check on the weather forecast for any early frosts and be ready to move any tender plants under cover.
🌿 Take down greenhouse shading as light levels start to fall.
🌿 Improve clay soil before it becomes too wet by digging in some organic matter and horticultural grit.
