A new month, a new year!
January in the garden is mostly about keeping things tidy and preparing for the year ahead.
Other top jobs for the month include;
๐ฟ Keep deadheading winter flowering Pansies to prevent them from going to seed.
๐ฟ Cut back ornamental grasses to within a few centimetres of the ground.
๐ฟ Prune rose bushes, cutting back to just above a bud and remove any dead stems.
๐ฟ Force rhubarb plants by placing a terracotta forcer pot or an upturned pot or bucket over the crown.
๐ฟ Prune gooseberries to encourage new growth.
๐ฟ Clean pots and greenhouses ready for Spring.
๐ฟ Trim back any ivy, Virginia creeper and other climbers that need tidying before birds start nesting.
๐ฟ Keep putting out food and water for the birds.
