A new month, a new year!
January in the garden is mostly about keeping things tidy and preparing for the year ahead.
Other top jobs for the month include;
🌿 Keep deadheading winter flowering Pansies to prevent them from going to seed.
🌿 Cut back ornamental grasses to within a few centimetres of the ground.
🌿 Prune rose bushes, cutting back to just above a bud and remove any dead stems.
🌿 Force rhubarb plants by placing a terracotta forcer pot or an upturned pot or bucket over the crown.
🌿 Prune gooseberries to encourage new growth.
🌿 Clean pots and greenhouses ready for Spring.
🌿 Trim back any ivy, Virginia creeper and other climbers that need tidying before birds start nesting.
🌿 Keep putting out food and water for the birds.
